On the evening of March 8, Jade Scott of Montpelier received a medallion recognizing her as a Distinguished Finalist in the 21st annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. 11-year old Jade is a fifth grader at Montpelier Middle School, and is by far the youngest recipient of the award in the state. She founded her school’s chapter of Help Us Give Shoes (HUGS) in 2014, and has collected more than 3,000 pairs of shoes, and $1,240 through two drives and sponsorships.
