Palmer Howell

Palmer HowellPalmer Howell, 73 years, of Defiance, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Genesis Healthcare – Twin Rivers Center, Defiance.  Palmer was born May 12, 1942 in Dana, Kentucky, the son of the late Walker and Ossie (Conn) Howell.  He married Peggy J. Baldwin on December 29, 1968 in Napoleon, Ohio, and she survives.

Palmer was an owner-operator of his own semi, hauling freight for 36 years, retiring in 2004.  He was raised in the Baptist Faith.  Palmer was a member of the Defiance VFW Post 3360 Father’s Club, Defiance Eagles Aerie 372 and the Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233, Defiance Tu-En-Da-Wie Masonic Lodge 0195, as well as the Moose Lodge 2094 in Defiance.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, finding old cars, which he refurbished and rebuilt.

Surviving in addition to his wife Peggy are two sons, Terry Howell of Roanoke, Virginia and Tim (Sharon) Sluss of Union, West; three grandchildren, Chad (Tara) Froelich of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Amber Mack and her companion Trevor Zachrich of Defiance and Ashley Mack also of Defiance; one great-granddaughter, Addlin Mae Froelich; special son-in-law, Chris Mack of Defiance; two brothers, Parley (Della) Howell of  Virginia and Billie Howell of Lexington, Kentucky; two sisters, Sue (Herbert) Carpenter of Lexington, Kentucky and Jean Harris of Lexington, Kentucky; two special friends, Jim Williams of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Dan Buckman of Defiance.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Theresa Mack, one brother, Charlie Howell and two sisters, Irene Acres and Madeline Scott.

To honor Palmer’s request, there will be no visitation and private family services were held.  Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial donations be given to Kindred at Home Hospice, 1900 Indian Wood Circle, Suite 100-B, Maumee, Ohio 43547, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
