Tatum Rae Bowerman-Hummel, age 37, of Delta, passed away peacefully Saturday night, August 20, 2016 at her home with family members gathered at her side. Through a 28 month open battle with cancer, Tatum fought every step of the way, showing courage and perseverance at every obstacle. Whether you were inspired by her journey of advocacy and education through Facebook, phone calls or text messaging, she was always candid and open with a sense of humor and sarcasm in a way that only Tatum could do.
Tatum was born in Wauseon on May 16, 1979, one of three children born to Gene Bowerman and Shirley (Battig) Bowerman. Tatum graduated from Delta High School in 1997. She later went on to further her education by receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Toledo and a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Bowling Green State University.
On June 7, 2003, Tatum married her life partner and best friend, Christopher M. Hummel. Through this marriage they were blessed with three little heart beats; daughters, Michaela Marae and Kathryn Kaileene and son, Oliver Gene Hummel.
Tatum was a school psychologist who dedicated her career to helping children, taking special interest to those with disabilities. She was a member of Fulton Union Church in Delta; where she grew in the Lord.
Along with her parents, husband and three children, she is survived by her brothers, Tyson and Jon Bowerman; loving aunts, uncles, cousins and more friends than can be mentioned.
Friends and family will be received from 5:00 PM -8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 and from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St Hwy 109 in Delta. Per Tatum’s request please do not wear anything pink in color, as this was her most disliked color. Instead, her wishes are for all who pay their respects to wear your least fond shade of green, as this was her favorite. A funeral service celebrating Tatum’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Delta United Methodist Church, 101 Northwood Dr., Delta, Ohio 43515. Pastor Tom Bates will be officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are strongly encouraged to be made through any local State Bank to “Michaela, Kathryn, and Oliver Hummel” for the future education of her children. Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com
