Phyllis B. Riviere, 89, of Fayette, died Saturday afternoon, March 16, 2013, at the Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice in Defiance, OH. She was born June 18, 1923, in Lenawee County, MI, the daughter of Roy and Stella (Votzke) Campbell. She married Oscar Riviere on April 21, 1946, in Clayton, MI, and he preceded her in death on April 16, 1993.

Phyllis grew up in rural Lenawee County, Michigan, attending many one-room schools and graduated from Clayton High School. This amazing lady was truly a member of the Greatest Generation, working in factories after high school to support the war effort and continuing to be part of the first generation of women to work outside the home.
She was a long-time member of the Fayette United Methodist Church and active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a fixture on Main Street each May selling poppies for the Veterans. For many years she was a counselor at Buckeye Girls State, where she had a positive impact on many young women as they learned about our government. When her husband developed a rare blood disease and needed frequent transfusions, she became a volunteer and worked tirelessly for the American Red Cross Blood drive held each quarter in Fayette. Phyllis was also active in many community events, and was one of the founding members of the annual Bull Thistle Festival.
Surviving Phyllis are her son, Hervie (Nancy) Riviere of Glouscheter , VA; three daughters, Diana (Thomas) Evans of Archbold, OH, Joyce (Jerry) Johnson of Whitehouse, OH, and Candace (Michael) Stewart of Hobe Sound, FL; brother, Lavon Campbell of Fayette, and sister Jean Ives of Vancouver, WA; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Merton, Roy and Paul Campbell; a sister, Ellen Dyvorski; and great-grandson Travis Morr.
A memorial service for Phyllis Riviere will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fayette United Methodist Church with Pastor Kathy Currier officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 4-8 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel.
