Arthur R. Huffman (1941 – 2016)

arthur-huffmanArthur R. Huffman, 75 years, of West Unity, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 at his home. Art was born on August 1, 1941 in Bryan, Ohio, the son of the late James and Willabelle (Hagerman) Huffman, Sr. He married Betty J. Merillat on July 7, 1962 in the Pulaski United Methodist Church, and she survives.

Art worked for the former Metal Forge in Stryker for 45 years, retiring in 1999, when the factory closed. Art volunteered for the Rails to Trails, tending to and caring for the walkway. He loved to tear things apart, and hopefully, put them back together, sometimes successful, sometimes not. He loved to mow and tend to his yard, and was very particular to its appearance. Surviving is his wife, Betty of West Unity; four daughters, Tamera (Mark) Cowell of West Unity, Shellie (Vince) Thiel of Edgerton, Teresa (Matt) Van Dyke of Montpelier and Brenda (Joel) Baker of Kunkle; six grandchildren, Allie (Seth) Lavinder, Kellie Patton, Zack Van Dyke, Lana Baker, Leanna Baker and Libbie Baker; two brothers, Mike (Sue) Huffman of Bryan and Martin Huffman, also of Bryan. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James Huffman, Jr. and David Huffman.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity. There will not be a service at the request of Art.


In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy to consider memorial contributions be directed to the American Heart Association.
