Harlan R. Babb, 90, of Montpelier and formerly of Reading, Michigan passed away Saturday night at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born November 10, 1926 in Essex, Missouri to William Ether and Nellie (Woods) Babb. Harlan graduated from Montpelier High School in 1949. He proudly served in the United States Army entering on February 2, 1945 at Camp Wheeler, Georgia serving during World War II in the Infantry Postal Service in the Philippines and Japan and was discharged on December 2, 1946 at Ft. Lewis, Washington. On May 30, 1958, he married Darline Glassford in Rochester, Michigan and she survives.
In 1989 Harlan retired after 28 years with Weatherhead, a division of Dana Corporation in Angola, Indiana, as a setup man. He also owned and operated their own family farm in Hillsdale County.
He is survived by his wife Darline of 58 years; three daughters, Cinda (Jesse) Hart of Sellersburg, Indiana, Cynthia (Paul) Roerig of Montpelier, and Theresa Babb of Montpelier; one son, Monte (Charolette) Babb of Marlette, Michigan; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and two sister-in-laws Anna Babb of Cambria, Michigan and Judy Babb of Clarkston, Michigan.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Cecilia Babb, brothers Raymond, Vernon, Bill and Chesley Babb, and two sisters Mildred Nichols and Alletrice Green.
