Robert M. Bechstein, age 92, of Swanton, passed away at Swanton Health Care on Tuesday morning, December 6, 2016. He was born in Delta, Ohio on November 24, 1924 to the late Marion Bechstein and Ethel (Smith) Bechstein. Bob attended Delta High School before enlisting in the U.S Navy during WWII. He served over 22 years with the Navy as a diesel mechanic. Bob was united in marriage to the late Rose Lang and together were blessed with 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Bob was a hardworking, kind and generous man. He enjoyed camping with his family, rebuilding cars and gardening. Later in life, he enjoyed attending auctions and casinos. He is beloved by his family and will be dearly missed.
Bob is survived by his children, Rosemarie Crouch, Dolores “Dee” Mackessy, Joseph (Barbara) Bechstein, John (Keri) Bechstein and Eva (Michael) Urita; grandchildren, Dan, Steve, Michael, Sarah, Jake, Matt, Ty, Taylor, Max, Olivia Rose and Ashley; great grandchildren, Mason, Alyssa, Chad, Wyatt, Canaan, Lincoln, Louie, Hudson and Ali; sisters, Goldie Turi and Mary Jaynes; and special friend and dear companion, Janies Thatcher and her son, Tom Wiley.
Along with his wife, Rose; he was preceded in death by his daughter, Marianne Bechstein; sisters, Helen Crutcher and Dolores Vondran; and brother, Marvin “Dick” Bechstein.
Friends will be received from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta; where a funeral service celebrating Bob’s life will begin at 12:00 Noon. Pastor Chuck Whitmire will be officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery near Delta.
