Philip Ronald Scott passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bryan, Ohio where he had resided in the Solona Alzheimer Unit for two years.

Philip was born June 30, 1939 in Wauseon, Ohio to Helen (Peugeot) and Ronald H. Scott. He graduated in 1957 from Bryan High School, 1961 from Ashland College and received a master’s degree in Library Science from The University of Illinois-Carthage in 1967. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan.

He held the position of librarian at Carthage College, Carthage, Illinois and at their Kenosha, Wisconsin campus. Later he moved to Racine, Wisconsin for a position in the public library. While there, he was chosen as head librarian for the first public library in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. He had the opportunity to select all the books and media material for the new library and implement many programs for the community

Williams County residents will recall Phil’s friendly smile and helpfulness at the Bryan, Edgerton and Montpelier libraries before he retired in 2003. He had a great sense of humor and wit and made many friends. He liked to travel when he had the opportunity and a trip to Europe with time in Paris was a good memory.

With the help of family, friends and Alcoholics Anonymous his last twenty- six years were alcohol free. He felt blessed when he was able to sponsor someone in AA .

Philip was a good son and helped care for his parents as they declined in health. He enjoyed reading, feeding the birds, playing with his cat and drinking coffee with friends at the Bryan Newsstand and other local eateries.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 2008, he is survived by his father who lives at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center, and cousins including Joan McNamee of Stryker and Tom Opdycke of Bryan.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 12th from 4-8pm at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker, Ohio. Private graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Stryker prior to a memorial service. Pastor Barry Sweet will conduct this memorial service in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan Saturday April 13th at 11am. Memorial suggestions include the Solona Alzheimer Unit activity fund at Bryan Care and Rehab Center; Community Health Professionals/Hospice of Archbold, Ohio; First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, Ohio or donating a book to a library of your choice. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com.
