Hilltop Cadets Ride Six Unearned Runs To A 9-4 Win Over The Montpelier Locomotives

MONTPELIER – For the Hilltop Cadets on April 9, Montpelier errors were the gifts that just kept giving…and giving. Although the Cadet offense was limited to a double and 2 RBIs apiece from Miklo Abner and Nic Schieber, the Montpelier defense did the rest, shooting themselves in the foot for six unearned runs and a 9-4 home loss to their rivals.

Abner got the start for Hilltop, going 3 innings and allowing 4 runs, 3 earned on 4 hits and 7 walks, fanning 5. Schieber finished with 4 frames of scoreless ball, whiffing 5 and passing 3.

Brandon Willis had 2 RBIs for Hilltop, and Jalen Towers added another.

Parker Houk went 4 innings for Montpelier, allowing 5 unearned runs on a hit and 6 walks, striking out 3. Dalton Surbey threw a scoreless inning, and was followed by Jared Shoup who went 1 1/3 innings and was tagged for 4 runs, 3 earned on 4 walks and a hit, striking out 2. Tyler Benner then took over, getting the final two outs via the K.


Benner, Keegan Hitzeman and Hunter McKelvey each had RBI singles for the Locos, while Gunner Matson had a base hit.
