EDON – The axiom is as old as sports journalism…’Big players play big in big games’. It may be as old as Methuselah, but the saying is 99.9 percent rock solid. In Locomotive Country, when it comes to ‘big players’, there is one name that always seems to rise to the top of the ladies’ list…Lauren Dye.[emember_protected custom_msg=”Full content protected for online subscribers. Standing between the Montpelier Lady Locomotives and the D-IV Sectional Championship was the Hicksville Lady Aces, who were seeded #2 in the bracket. On May 15, the unseeded Lady Locos sent Dye to the circle against Hicksville. The senior allowed a run in the first inning, and then slammed the door for the next six as Montpelier rallied to win the Sectional Championship by a 2-1 score.

Wendy Duchene plated both Montpelier runs with RBI doubles, but Dye helped her own cause in concert with Duchene. Dye singled and was aboard in the fourth inning when she was driven in by the first Duchene RBI two-bagger, tying the game. The scenario was replayed in the sixth as Sydney Houk singled and scored on Duchene’s second RBI double of the night. That run, backed by Dye’s dominance in the circle, proved to be the game winner.

Dye allowed a run on 5 hits, fanning 4.

Wendy Duchene finished with a pair of RBI doubles, Jessy Duchene had a single and a double, Dye had a pair of base knocks and a run scored, and Houk had a single and scored.
