Dorothy “Dot” Ragland (1949- 2018)

Dorothy “Dot” J. Ragland, 68, of Pioneer, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance.

She was born on November 11, 1949 in Hillsdale, MI, to Norman G. “Whitey” Thorp and Margaret Grace (Miller) Thorp.

Dot graduated from North Central High School in 1967 and went on to obtain her cosmetology license after graduation. On June 2, 2001 she married James K. “Jim” Ragland at the Pioneer United Methodist Church in Pioneer and he survives.

Dot was the secretary for Thorp Realty in Pioneer and she was the manager of the Lake Pioneer Condominiums until 2007, as well as a landlord for one rental property. She previously attended Pioneer United Methodist Church and served as treasurer for the Pioneer V.F.W. Auxiliary. Dot loved jewelry, going antiquing with her mom and anything involving her beloved grandson, Tristan.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Ragland of Pioneer; children, Eddie Robison and Ashley (Justin Varichak) Robison both of Pioneer; grandson, Tristan M. Varichak of Pioneer; step children, James (Gina) Ragland of Sylvania, Beth (Jim) Kružel of Toledo, Deanna (Steve) Dunaway of Oregon, OH and Terry (Jennifer) Ragland of Toledo; eleven step grandchildren; six great grandchildren, with two more on the way; sister-in-law, Iris Thorp of Pioneer; nephew, Norman K. Thorp of Pioneer; and niece, Tracy (Andy) Mills of Pioneer.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Norman D. Thorp.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Stivers to officiate. Interment to follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.
