Barbara L. Canfield, 91, of rural Fayette, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at her home.

Born January 19, 1927, in St. Johns, MI, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Heidemann) Clark.

Barb was a 1945 graduate of Rodney Wilson High School, before studying business at the University of Michigan.

She married the love of her life, Calvin H. Canfield on December 2, 1950, in Ann Arbor, MI, and they settled on his family farm, where they would spend the rest of their lives. He preceded her in death on September 1, 1995.

In addition to serving as a loving homemaker for her family, Barb worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Elliot in Wauseon and later was employed with Fulton County Soil and Water. She also worked for several years at the former Coach Light Room clothing store in Wauseon.

Barb was active as a member of several civic and social organizations, including the Wauseon Elks Club, Fayette Legion Auxiliary, Bridge Club, Fayette Community Fine Arts Council, and she faithfully attended the Fayette United Methodist Church. Most recently, she enjoyed Thursdays at Seven Book Club at the Normal Memorial Library.

Barb is remembered for her talent of sewing and her enjoyment of tending to her flower gardens. She was fortunate to travel to many places around the world, and enjoyed special family trips piloted by her husband. She also enjoyed playing cards and was an avid sports fan, always rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Surviving are a daughter, Debra L. (Michael) Dow of Hoffman Estates, IL; a son, Jeffrey C. (Sally) Canfield of Fayette; a brother, Robert R. (Jo) Clark of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Erik C. (Nell) Canfield of Centerville, OH, Amanda J. (Jack) DeVer of Columbus, OH, and Dr. Brandon S. Canfield (and fiancée Stef) of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Eamon and Oliver Canfield, and Everett and Rowan Dever; loving in-laws, Bernie Clark of Eugene, OR, Dean E. Bates of Tampa, FL, and Patricia Nickel of Marietta, CA.

In addition to her parents and husband of 45 years, Calvin, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard S. Clark; and sister, Katherine M. Bates.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 1-4 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018, at the Eagle Funeral Home with Pastor Andrea Curry officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette.

Memorial contributions in honor of Barb are suggested to the Fayette United Methodist Church or the Fayette Community Fine Arts Council. Friends can share memories and words of comfort with the family online at www.eaglefuneralhomes.com.
