WEST UNITY 1/13/2014—In a key BBC matchup, it would be the Pettisville Blackbirds coming away with a 62-48 victory over the Cadets of Hilltop.
The Cadets would grab a first quarter lead, outscoring the Blackbirds 14-11 in the opening quarter of action.
Hilltop would be unable to hold that lead for for very long, with Pettisville racking up 15 points to Hilltop’s 11 in the second period. By the time the halftime buzzer sounded, the Blackbirds ad taken a one point lead, 26-25.
It would be in the third quarter when Pettisville would take complete control of the matchup. The Blackbird defense was able to stifle the Cadet scoring, holding Hilltop to only six points in the third quarter. While their defense stepped up, the Blackbird offense did the same, scoring 18 points, and moving their lead to 44-31 at the end of the third quarter.
Both team’s offenses would come to play in the final quarter of action, as the two teams scored a combined total of 35 points in the fourth. Although Hilltop was able to score 17 of those 35 points, it would not be enough to cut in to the Blackbird lead, and Pettisville would come away with a 62-48 win over their BBC rivals.
For the Blackbirds, Mann and King both contributed 14 points in the winning effort. Rychener scored nine, Kaufman had eight, Dykstra put up six, Miller score five, Lucas had four, and Liechty finished with two.
On the Cadet’s side of the scorebook, it was Smith leading the way with 14, followed by McKinney with nine, Maneval and Towers both scored seven, Lawery racked up six, Abner finished with three, and Schiebar rounded out the scoring with two.
