Bryan & Wauseon Compete At Division II State Swim & Dive Meet

CANTON—The Bryan girls team placed 9th and Wauseon placed 12th at the 2020 State Swimming and Diving Meet held last week in Canton.

Bryan senior Taylor Peters got things off to a good start for Bryan by earning a place on the podium by finishing third in 1-meter diving with 427.50 points.

Meggie Voight continued Bryan’s success by swimming the 50 Freestyle in 23.86 seconds to take fifth place and placing sixth in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 52.44.


Bryan was also successful in the relay events starting with the 200 Freestyle team of Taylor Peters, Addie Oberlin, Audrey Zimmerman, Meggie Voight who placed eighth in a time of 1:40.55. In the 400 Relay (Zimmerman, Lauren Wityk, Hannah Goodrich, Voight) raced to a 13th place finish with a time of 3:43.45.

Wauseon had a solid performance in the pool led by senior Brooke Schuette who came home third in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:53.60. Schuette also won the consolation finals in the 500 Freestyle in a time of 5:04 to place ninth overall.

The 200 Freestyle Relay squad of Sarayna Russell, Maggie Duden, Megan Carroll, and Grace Rhoades placed 15th and the 400 team (Schuette, Carroll, Rhoades, Russell) came home in 8th with a 3:43.06.


On the boys’ side, Bryan’s squad was 18th while Wauseon placed 29th. Bryan’s Kellen Rigg took a spot on the podium by finishing in seventh place in 200 Freestyle with a 1:44.06. Rigg later won the consolation finals of the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:43 to place ninth overall. Wauseon’s Andrew Scherer placed 13th in that race with a time of 4:55.

For Wauseon, Branden Arredondo took 12th in the 50 Freestyle in a time of 22.17 and later was 8th in the 100 Freestyle by swimming a 48.52.

In the Relay events, Bryan (Jackson Miller, Jeremy Durdel, Collin Barrow-Whetro, Kellen Rigg were 14th in the 200 Freestyle (1:30.24) and the same group of swimmers placed 14th also in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

The Wauseon 200 Freestyle relay team (Caden Case, J.T. Hutchinson, Andrew Scherer, Branden Arredondo) placed 16th by finishing the consolation race with a time of 1:31.51 while the 400 team (Maddux Chamberlin, Hutchinson, Scherer, Arredondo) was also 16th in a time of 3:21.41.
