The Center Township Trustees met in a regular session on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Trustees present were Matthew Grube, Ryan Muehlfeld and Julie Davis. Fiscal Officer Terry Collins, Zoning Inspector Todd Burkholder, Cemetery Sexton Kurt Roan and Road Supervisor Sheila McGill were also present.

Trustees were updated on the condition of the seven tornado sirens located throughout the township.

“To refresh, we’ve decided I think with everything the City of Bryan is doing, and Williams County is doing is that when a tornado siren dies because of all of the other technology, it’s foolish to replace a tornado siren for $60,000,” said Grube.

Grube had talked with City of Bryan Fire Chief Doug Pool and the Edgerton, Edon and Montpelier fire departments, saying they all are taking a stance that tornado sirens only need to be in public places where somebody would be outside.

The township will be sending a letter to North Western Electric Cooperative asking if it would assist with moving the poles and the fees involved.

In other business:

-A township resident addressed the trustees regarding a nuisance complaint. Another township resident raised a concern regarding ornamental grasses and other plantings on her property, saying someone had mowed them.

-Approved a permit request from a township resident for an accessory building addition.

-Was informed the deed on the recently acquired Williams Center Community Building was completed. The township is waiting for surveying work to be done on the building.

-Passed a resolution for special assessments for lighting in the Oak Meadows, Durham Estates, Orchard Ridge and Quarry Estates at William Ford addition.

-Discussed landscaping work at Brown Cemetery and Lick Creek Cemetery.

-Approved the July 21 meeting minutes and the payment of bills.

The trustees went into an executive session to discuss insurance. No action was taken. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 8 p.m.
