Clarabell Badenhop (1934-2023)

Clarabell Henrietta (Plassman) Badenhop, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

Clarabell was born November 28, 1934 in Deshler, Ohio to the late Ernest and Clara (Marksch) Plassman.

She was baptized December 16, 1934 at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Deshler and affirmed her baptism thru the rite of confirmation on March 21, 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Napoleon Twp.

Clarabell married Elden H. Badenhop on October 31, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Napoleon Twp. by Pastor George Hueter.

Clarabell graduated from Napoleon High School. After graduation she was employed at Warncke Insurance Agency in Napoleon.


She also worked as a mail carrier for Archbold Post Office, Secretary and Bookkeeper at Rice, Plassman, Rupp Law Firm in Archbold, Production Clerk and Office Manager at LaChoy Food Products, Archbold and Licensed Staff at State Farm Insurance, Archbold, Ohio.

She also volunteered her time and served in many ways in her community and church including holding offices in Bobb and Butches C.C.L., Treasurer for Archbold United Way, President and Secretary of the Archbold Library Board, President, Secretary and Treasurer for Women of St Martin’s Lutheran Church, Treasurer of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Chairman of St. Martin’s Visitation Committee, Adult Sponsors of St. Martin’s Luther League, and member of the church choir for 40 years.

She is survived by daughter Cristie (Keith) Sevey, Archbold, son, Philip (Nancy) Badenhop, Wauseon, and daughter, Jill (Kevin) Sautter, Weston. Clarabell had 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 12 step-great grandchildren. Also survived by sister, Mildred Mitchell, Columbus Grove, brother-in-law, Dalynn (Sharon) Badenhop, Perrysburg, and sister-in-law, Suzanne Plassman, Fort Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold (Joan) Plassman, Ray Plassman, Ron Plassman, Richard Plassman and sisters Florence (Norman) Fitzenreiter and Margret (Vernon) Meyer.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 21, at 2 PM at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Archbold. Interment will follow in the Archbold Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 1 – 7 PM at the church or one hour prior to service.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be given to St. Martin’s Lutheran Church or CHP In Patient Hospice.  www.ShortFuneralHome.com
