The Village of Edgerton was buzzing with excitement this past weekend at the annual village-wide garage sales. The dates for the sales this year took place on Thursday, June 5th through Saturday, June 7th.
Shoppers enjoyed a weekend full of table-lined driveways, hidden gems, and unique antiques. It was a perfect event for anyone trying to find a good deal or a new treasure.
Ranging from garage sales to yard sales, there were many neighborhood streets lined with signs guiding the public from one sale to the next.
Anyone living in town who wished to do some spring cleaning, interact with the local community, and make some extra cash could host a garage sale and even get their name and address put on a special map given out to shoppers at the Edgerton Branch of The Hicksville Bank or online via MainStreet Edgerton’s Facebook page.
The online map allowed garage sale-goers to plan a route to explore the entire village. This made navigating the village easier for those who may not have been familiar with the street locations.
This year, over 25 garage sales around Edgerton were listed on the map. Although some decided not to open up until Friday, the rain on Thursday proved those opening later did not miss out too much. However, there were still those who chose to brave the weather to catch a good sale!
Many basic and interesting items for sale could be found throughout the village. Popular items included clothes, shoes, toys, appliances, household items, books, furniture, tools, sports equipment, handbags, luggage, and games.
Other unique items included a golf cart, miscellaneous antiques, handmade items, gaming consoles, teacher supplies, sports cards, Beanie Babies, and other collectibles.
With the abundance of eye-catching items also came affordability. Many in the community favor the Edgerton garage sales because of their reasonable prices and/or the ability to bargain.
Some members of the community shared they have a garage sale every summer, highlighting its success over the years. Others mentioned how it is one of their first ones ever, hoping for more to come in the future.
On the flip side, the same goes for buyers. Many locals look forward to this time of year to see what deals they come across.
Others, however, may be first-timers or just looking for that one special thing, with some even visiting from other communities. Customers of all ages enjoyed the thrill of a good haul.
This year proved once again that there truly is a little something for everyone in Edgerton!
