The Edon Village Council met on November 18th at 7 pm. Council members David Loughborough, Jeff Pease, Austin Thiel, Lee Lawrence, Dan Ankney, Brian Shaffer, Mayor Duane Thiel, Village Administrator Chad Ordway, and Fiscal Officer Heidi Bidwell were present. Police Chief Tom Szymczak, Solicitor Tom Thompson, and a few community members were also in attendance.
Mayor Duane Thiel called the meeting to order at 7 pm after the Pledge of Allegiance. The mayor asked the council if they read over the meeting minutes, financial reports, and bills and asked for a motion to approve. All items were approved by the council.
Next on the agenda was the reading of communications. Police Chief Tom Szymczak approached the council and informed them that the officers were getting a pay increase from $22 to $23.50.
Szymczak also talked about a Human trafficking training that would be taking place at the school on November 19th that he and a few officers would be attending.
The committee reports had nothing new from Safety or Cemetery, but the park got new picnic tables put together but will not be placed there until the weather gets warmer.
The zoning committee stated that the zoning map will need to be revised due to the potential movement of six parcels. Solicitor Tom Thompson informed the council members they would need to post a public hearing and write letters to adjacent landowners about the changes to the zoning map.
For old business third reading of MOU for Edon school SRO. Motion to approve by Lawrence and seconded by Pease.
For new business Resolution 04-24 CO OP agreement with ODNR for two test drills at Walz Park. These drills are currently out at the park being drilled by Watson drilling.
Chad Ordway stated that the village made the last payment on the Water Tower. Ordway also informed the council members that he sent them a rough draft budget to look over.
Also on the agenda for the meeting was approval of Ordinance 08-24, a 2025 wage ordinance. First draft reading of Ordinance 09-24, an allowing UTVs ordinance, which according to Thompson and Szymczak will need to be reviewed and revised again to fit the needs of the village. Both ordinances were approved after suspension of the rules.
The Edon Village Council meeting adjourned at 7:35 pm. The next village council meeting will be held December 16th at 7 pm. A special meeting is scheduled for January 2nd. The municipal offices will be closed for Thanksgiving November 28 and 29.
