(January 31st, 2015) – PETTISVILLE: In the first round of the Eighth Grade Girls Buckeye Border Conference Tournament, the Lady Eagles of Fayette did battle with their counterparts from North Central.
Fayette was able to defeat the Williams County Eagles, winning the contest 32-20.
Gaining an 8-5 lead in the first period, Fayette never relinquished control of the game. Things remained close in the second quarter, as North Central found themselves just short of tying things up. They were down 15-13 going into the locker room.
The Fayette defense gave themselves some breathing room in the third quarter, however. Holding North Central scoreless for the duration of the frame, Fayette added another 5 points to their advantage. Then, in the fourth and final quarter of the game, Fayette closed out the game, winning by a 12 point margin.
Rhys Ruger, of Fayette, led all scorers with 13 points. Teammate Mataya Rufenacht added 9 more points in the victory.
For North Central, Elser was the top scorer with 8 points. Brown added another 7 points to the North Central effort.
