Franklin D. “Sonny” New, 72, of Fayette, died Friday afternoon, July 5, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee, OH. He was born October 19, 1940, in Jenkinjones, West Virginia, to the late William R. and Cora Opal (Gentry) New. He married Edna Eleanore “Tic” Phillips on September 29, 1967, in Morenci, MI, and she preceded him in death on October 30, 2011.
Sonny lived his early life in West Virginia and moved to Fayette in 1960. He was employed with Fayette Tubular Products for 36 years, and later retired from Sauders Woodworking in Archbold, OH following eight years of service. Sonny was a member of the Gorham-Fayette Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He enjoyed camping, watching television, and playing cards.

Surviving Sonny are his step-children, Frank (Terry) Storrs of Fayette, Jeff Storrs of Granite City, Illinois, and Connie Sue (Bryan) of Fayette; a brother, Charles (Grace) New of Archbold, OH; nephew, Robert New; niece, Linda (Rick) Bailey; nine step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; extended family in West Virginia and North Carolina; and his beloved canine companion, Chico.
In addition to his wife and parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley New; and a step-grandchild, Nathan Storrs.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider memorial donations in Sonny’s honor to the Fayette Nazarene Church, or a charity of their choice.
