On Saturday, September 21 all residents of Fulton County will receive free admission to Historic Sauder Village for “Fulton County Community Appreciation Day.” Have fun in the past with your family and Fulton County neighbors while visiting more than 40 historic homes and shops, trying hands-on activities and creating special memories at Sauder Village!
“As a non-profit organization we are humbled by all those who have helped sustain my grandpa’s dream and we understand the importance of giving back to our neighbors,” shared Debbie Sauder David, Sauder Village executive director. “We truly appreciate the support we have received from our local communities over the past 38 years and look forward to having many Fulton County residents join us for this special day at Sauder Village.”
On Saturday, September 21 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. all Fulton County residents will receive free admission to Historic Sauder Village. Please be prepared to present a drivers license or other form of identification to verify county residency.
“We realize that many Fulton County residents have not been to Sauder Village since they came on a school bus or brought their children many years ago,” shared Jeanette Smith, Director of Sales & Marketing. “We are offering free admission to Fulton County residents not only as a way to say thank you, but also to encourage people to visit and see all the changes that have taken place over the years.”
On this special day, there will be many hands-on opportunities for guests to enjoy. Guests can help make buttermilk biscuits and help roll out a pie crust for a ground cherry pie in the Homestead. Other hands-on experiences include stringing leather britches, making beaten biscuits, churning butter and making apple butter rolls. To add to the day’s festivities, guests will have a chance to enter a drawing to win prizes and will also have an opportunity to purchase discounted Sauder Village memberships.
Throughout the day guests can experience the daily lives of our ancestors while visiting with costumed guides in historic homes, farms and gardens, and community shops. Guests will also enjoy watching the many craftsmen at work in the Village including the glassblower, potter, blacksmith, weaver, spinner and many others! This will be a great opportunity for Fulton County residents to visit Natives and Newcomers and explore Pioneer Settlement. Families with young children will enjoy spending time at Little Pioneers Homestead where they can “play pioneer” as they gather eggs, milk the fiberglass cow and play in the log cabin.
“Many people in our region don’t realize that Sauder Village is Ohio’s largest living history destination,” shared Smith. “Each year Sauder Village welcomes nearly 100,000 guests with even more people dining at the Barn Restaurant, staying at the Inn and Campground or enjoying our many retail shops.”
The Sauder Village mission is to provide guests with experiences rich in history, hospitality, creativity, and fun. Since opening in 1976, Sauder Village has grown to a 235-acre complex with more than 450 employees and 400 adult and 200 youth volunteers. As Ohio’s largest living history destination, Sauder Village includes the award winning Historic Village, the 98-room Sauder Heritage Inn, a 48-site campground, the 350-seat Barn Restaurant, the Doughbox Bakery, and banquet seating for 750 in Founders Hall. The Historic Village preserves more than 75 historic structures and nearly 50,000 artifacts where history is brought to life through stories, demonstrations, and programs. Proceeds from the retail and hospitality areas, along with admissions, memberships, and donations, contribute to the financial support for this 501(c)(3) organization.
