The Fulton County Senior Center offers multiple activities at its sites in Wauseon, Delta, Archbold, Swanton, and Fayette for the fall months.

Tuesday, October 6 is the 7th annual Road to Wellness Health Care Conference for adults and caregivers in and around Fulton County. The theme for the 2015 event is “Which Direction Am I Going?” and will take place from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at Wauseon’s St. Caspar Parish Life Center on Shoop Avenue. Information will be provided about living wills, medical power of attorney, assisted and independent living, veterans’ services, private duty nursing, long-term home health care, health screenings, fraud and scam information, freebies, and much, much more. Complete a registration form (available at a local Senior Center site) and receive a free lunch at the Road to Wellness event.

Artist Nora Sallows has agreed to return in October to provide acrylic painting classes at the Wauseon site on Tuesday, October 13 and 27, and November 10 and 24. This series of four classes will take place from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Nora provides the paint, canvases, easels, brushes and expertise at a cost of only $75 for the series. Registration and payment is due by October 3. Call Beth at 419-337-9299 to register.

Seniors are invited to a free concert on Wednesday, October 14 at the Wauseon site gym for a performance by the Joe LaConey Band. This 25-member band has an incredible Big Band sound. The concert starts at 10:30 am. Feel free to join them for lunch at noon. Please make your lunch reservations with Karen at 419-337-9299 by October 9. Suggested donation for lunch is $2.00 for Fulton County residents age 60 and over and $3.50 for out-of-county residents.

Medicare Check-Up Day will be on Tuesday, October 20 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Wauseon Senior Center. Representatives from OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) will offer appointments. Please call 419-337-9299 to sign up for an appointment time to get help with Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Plans) and Medicare changes for 2016 as well as personalized drug plan comparisons. Those wanting comparisons are asked to bring their Medicare card and a current list of medications and dosages (your pharmacist can supply a printed list of your medications). Lunch break will be from noon to 1:00 pm. Lunch reservations must be made by 4:00 pm on Friday, October 16 if planning to eat at the Senior Center. Suggested donation for lunch is $2.00 for Fulton County residents age 60 and over and $3.50 for out-of-county residents. Questions can be directed to 419-337-9299. This is a free service brought to seniors by the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP). In addition, please call to schedule your Medicare Part D comparison for November 12 or 24 or December 1. All appointment times will be from 10 am to 2 pm. You may also find answers to your questions by calling OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) at 800-686-1578.

Sign up now to attend the AARP Driver Safety Course at the Wauseon site on November 5, 8:00 am to noon. This class is open to all Fulton County seniors age 60 and over. Sign up today — class is limited to 20 people. As a participant, you will need your current driver’s license and a current AARP membership card, if you have one. The class fee for AARP members is $15. The fee for non-AARP members is $20.00. Reserve your spot with Beth at 419-337-9299 before October 27. This four-hour class includes watching videos and reviewing basic laws of the road. Note, no actual driving takes place during this class. According to AARP Safety Driving Instructor Leonard Stovall, this defensive driving class is a great way to recognize and eliminate bad habits. “Even if we can save just one accident, then everybody wins!” Stovall said. You will receive a certificate upon completing this class. Some insurance companies will give discounts to those who participate in the course every three years. Contact your auto insurance company to find out if you qualify for a discount.
