Delbert-R-Baker-webDelbert R. Baker, 80, of Pioneer passed away Friday afternoon at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on September 20, 1935 in Montpelier to Ray O. and Kathleen (Lashaway) Baker. Delbert attended Montpelier Schools.

Delbert retired as a service technician from General Telephone in 1990. He began his 32 year career in Sylvania, Ohio and finished in the Montpelier and Pioneer area. After retirement he worked at the Auto Auction in Montpelier for several years. Delbert loved older cars and enjoyed going to the Labor Day Auto Auctions in Auburn, Indiana. He enjoyed fixing up and collecting lawn mowers and he also collected clocks.

He is survived by five children, Martha “Susie” (Bruce) Mosier of Ney, Ohio, Deb (Steve) Weinstock of Bryan, Melinda (Scott) Butler of Bryan, Doug Baker of Ney, and Mary (Jim) Comadoll of Napoleon, Ohio,; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; two sisters, Phyllis Miller and Lola Miller; and two brothers, William “Billy” Baker and Louie Baker.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Iva Mae Nicholls.

Visitation for Delbert will be on Tuesday, September 29th from 10am-12pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Graveside services will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier with Pastor John MacFarlane to officiate.

Memorial contributions may be given to CHP – Inpatient Hospice. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com
