Helen Louise Wray, 89, of Pioneer, passed away on Thursday at Community Hospitals & Wellness Centers in Bryan. She was born on April 23, 1923 in Amboy Township, Michigan, to Carl E. and Ival (Blount) Converse. Helen was a long time resident of Pioneer graduating from Pioneer High School in 1940.

Helen worked as a waitress for 40 years at places such as the Indian Meadows Service Plaza on the Ohio Turnpike, Santa’s Exit II Restaurant and the Holiday Inn at Holiday City, Ohio. She was a member of The Pioneer United Methodist Church.

Helen is survived by her two children, Ron (Judy) Wray of Pioneer and Jacquie (John) Meister of Waldron, MI; five grandchildren, Shane “Boog” Wray, Heather Gruver, Jonathan Wray, Jeana Cox and Jacob Meister; and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, E. Lyle Wray who passed away on March 13, 2001; brother, George Converse; and two sisters, Jane Cooprider and Nancy Manley.


Visitation hours for Helen will be on Monday January 21st from 2-6 pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer. Funeral services will follow at 6 pm with Reverend Alan Fenstermaker and Rex Ely to officiate. Donations may be made to Hospital Hospice.
