EDON 12/28/2013—Two high powered offenses were on display in the matchup against the Edon Bombers and the Hicksville Aces in the consolation game of the Route 49 Boys Classic. The two squads combined to score a total of 124 points. However, a slow start by the Bombers would cost them in the end, as Hicksville would go on win 73-51.
Although they would go on to score over 50 points on the night, the contest would start off slowly for the Bombers, only scoring four points to open the game. Meanwhile, Hicksville saw five different players put points on the board. This put Edon in a 25-4 hole at the end of the first quarter.
After being outscored by 19 points in the first quarter, Edon’s offense would find its groove in the second, scoring 20 points, including nine points from Sapp. Even with scoring twenty points, Hicksville still held a sizeable halftime lead, as the teams went in to the locker room with the scoreboard reading 43-24 in favor of the Aces.
The Hicksville lead would shrink though in the third quarter, as Edon’s defense would shut down the Ace’s offense, only giving up seven points. After three quarters of action, Hicksville’s lead had shrunk to 11, leading 50-39 over the Bombers.
The slow start by the Bombers would catch up with them in the final quarter, as the hole that they had dug themselves in to would prove to be too great to overcome. The Bombers would be outscored 23-12 in the fourth quarter, with Hicksville grabbing the win 73-51.
Brown and Peeples lead the way with 13 points a piece, Sapp followed with 12 points, Thiel scored six, Blair had four points, and Peckham finished with three.
