EMS OVERVIEW … The guest speakers at this week’s meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Bryan were Jesse Brumbaugh, the assistant chief of Williams County Emergency Medical Service, and John Noyes, the training officer for Williams County Emergency Medical Service. They spoke with the group about the state of the service and answered questions from the group. EMS covers the entirety of Williams County with three trucks that service 90% of the calls. The range of calls covers everything from cardiac arrests, slip-and-falls, auto accidents and patient transfers between hospitals. EMS handles approximately 5,000 to 5,500 calls per year. The bulk of their funding comes through a fee-for-service arrangement. Volunteers make up the bulk of personnel that serve the county’s needs. EMS staff are required to complete 75 hours of continuing education per year after they are certified. They are truly an essential service for us all.
