Lois Bockover WEBLois A. Bockover, 90 years, of Bryan, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Genesis HealthCare-Bryan Center, Bryan, Ohio. Lois was born April 1, 1925 in Auburn, Indiana, the daughter of the late Darrell C. and Cleora S. (Wolfe) Hoffman. She was a 1943 graduate of Bryan High School. She married Cecil R. Bockover on September 17, 1943 in Peru, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on January 8, 1970.

Lois was a loving wife and mother, but worked outside the home at Kelly’s Newsstand and as a Nurse’s Aide at the former Bryan Nursing Home. She then helped her daughter Dorie at Dorie’s Deli on the Square in Bryan. Lois was active at the Bryan Senior Center. She was also involved in the Bryan Ladies Bowling Association and two different Bridge Clubs. Lois was an accomplished bowler and card player. She also loved to garden, caring for her flowers, crocheting and putting together jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She also thoroughly found pleasure in going fishing.

Surviving are her three children, Eldora “Dorie” (Jim) Joseph of Bryan, Gary (Linda) Bockover of Bryan and Randy (Jean) Bockover also of Bryan; eleven grandchildren, Scott (Candi) Joseph of Powell, Ohio, Steve Joseph of Bryan, Toni (Mike Johnson) Joseph of Bryan, Michael (Rhonda) Bockover of Edon, Matthew (Tonya) Bockover of Elizabethtown, North Carolina, Julie (Rick) Taylor of Bryan, Jennifer (Mark) Vetter of Ney, Jessica Bockover of Bryan, Jon (Tammie) Queen of Republic, Ohio, Michael (Jessica) Queen of Bryan and Jeris (Paige) Queen of Dallas, Texas; 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy (Julie) Hoffman of Charlestown, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Frances Hoffman of Cleveland, Ohio and Carol Hoffman of Melbourne, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, two sisters, Ila Schutte and Lila Brannan; two brothers, Albert “Skeet” Hoffman and Burnell “Curly” Hoffman.

Visitation for Lois A. Bockover will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home – Lynn Street Chapel, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 in the funeral home with Pastor Mary Beth Smith-Gunn officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.


Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial donations be given to Community Health Professionals Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be sent to the family or the online guest book may be signed at www.oberlinturnbull.com
