M. Doyle Stoner died on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Kobacker House. He was born March 26, 1927 in West Unity, OH to the late Beryl V. and Ruth Stoner. He was a graduate of West Unity High School and The Ohio State University. He served in U.S. Navy in World War II and was recalled to serve during the Korean Conflict.
Doyle was also a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and a 60 year member of Superior Lodge No. 179 F & A. M. He was employed by Brandt & Lee, Accountants for 12 years prior to founding M. Doyle Stoner, CPA in 1964. One of his proudest accomplishments was setting up the Ethel Kellogg Scholarship Fund in memory of his high school commercial (business) teacher. To date over 75 awards have been made to West Unity High School (Hilltop) graduates.
In retirement, Doyle enjoyed sharing his accounting talents with various charitable organizations. He enjoyed playing senior softball and volleyball, reading, and traveling. On October 1, 1950, he married Donna Craig. From this union came three children, Michael D. (Debra) Stoner and Susan (George) Ells of Columbus, OH, Diane C. Stoner of Denver, CO.
On April 26, 1980, Doyle married Joyce Gifford Miller. Joyce brought to the marriage three children, Rod Miller of Westerville, OH, Karen Lehman of Greenville, SC, and Julie (Michael) Keen of Royersford, PA. He is survived by Joyce, the 6 children,8 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters; brothers, Jack Stoner of West Unity, OH, Ted (Jean) Stoner of Winter Haven, FL; brother-in-law, Jerry (Jane) Gifford of Nashville, TN and many nieces and nephews. Doyle is preceded in death by his sister in law, Dortha Stoner.
Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until time of memorial service at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Riverside United Methodist Church, 2701 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH. 43221 with Rev. David Griebner officiating. A private interment to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park.
