Madison Township Trustees held their regular bi-monthly meeting on Monday June, 24th. Present at the meeting were: President Mark Schmucker, trustees Rodney Baker Sr. and Terry Huffman, Fiscal Officer Debra Maneval, Township Fire Chief Jon Baker, Fire Captain Jordan Hunkapiller, township maintenance Tony Carpenter and community members Austin Douglass, Jr. Dennison and Dan VanArsdalen.

Trustee President Mark Schmucker called the meeting to order at 7:00pm followed by roll call made. Maneval then read the minutes from the trustees June 10th meeting.

Baker Sr. made a motion for the approval of the minutes which was seconded by Huffman. Maneval then presented the bills before the trustees.

Fire Chief Jon Baker then gave a report over the department. Firstly, mentioned was that truck #53 is at Body Works auto shop getting repaired, it is expected to be back and in service before the end of the week.

A few housekeeping things mentioned were that the doorhandles for the bathroom at the fire station is stuck and would need fixed before the 4th of July as it would be a public access point. A new lock is also needed on the west door of the fire station.

Chief Baker than reported on a call he had received from Mike Elder from Bridgewater in regard to a recent fire call.

According to Elder, Madison Township was the only department to show up for the call and he voiced that he was upset with the fact that no one from the Pioneer Fire Department had responded. Chief Baker just wanted to make the trustees aware of this conversation.

Lastly, Chief Baker noted to the trustees that the frame on the new truck #55 Ford is in bad condition. He asked Carpenter to take a look at it as the leaf spring is pushing up on the box. Chief Baker was the presented with the new insurance cards to place in all the department vehicles.

Next to give an update was Tony Carpenter for the town maintenance. Recently, they finished the project on County Road 16.

Huffman made a suggestion to extend the pipe so that Kunkle’s doesn’t tear upon the road when going into the field. The two ditches coming out of Al Semers is now finished and the yard has been seeded.

The maintenance guys have also been working on mowing road ditches to prevent overgrowth and for safety measures. Carpenter also mentioned that they would move down the road on County Road 16 to dip out the ditch north of County Road O.

Schmucker then went around the room for an open discussion. VanArsdalen asked if it would make a difference if they changed how the trustees will run on the addition to the fire station.

Huffman stated that Sutton’s have already ordered the trusses of no changed would be able to be made.

All of the paperwork for the Salt Shed project has been completed according to Maneval and now the trustees will just need to submit an invoice to receive the funds for the project.

Baker Sr. discussed getting signatures around in support of the Post Office for Kunkle. The signatures that could be collected would be mailed with a letter to Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur’s office.

Baker Sr. then also mentioned that he had spoken with Todd Roth again about the propels that have persistently been occurring at the four corners in Kunkle. According to Baker Sr., Roth said he would look into this and see what can be done.

Maneval then presented the trustees with checks for approval and signatures. After which, there was no other business, so Baker Sr. made a motion for the meeting to be adjourned which was seconded by Huffman.

The Madison Township Trustee’s will hold their next regular meeting on Monday, July 8th at 7:00pm in their Township Building located at 105 E Mill St, Pioneer, OH 43554.
