Montpelier American Legion Post 109 has selected Simon Wang, Lane Strubberg, Audry Pirtle and Maddie Richmond to participate in the upcoming American Legion Boys State and Girls State programs, a one week intensive education program of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government. Simon Wang, Lane Strubberg, Audry Pirtle and Maddie Richmond will be available for interviews prior to and immediately following their Boys and Girls State experience. Media are also invited to cover their participation in the program. Interviews with a Post 109 spokesman to talk about the program can be arranged.
At American Legion Boys and Girls State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs. High School juniors are selected by local American Legion posts. Mentoring of youth is one of the Four Pillars of The American Legion.
Ohio Buckeye Boys State will be held the week of June 14th-21st. Ohio Buckeye Girls State will be held the week of June 14-20th.
The American Legion Post 109 also wishes to thank the following Businesses and Organizations for their generous contributions that allow the attendees to participate free of charge to them. The Montpelier Eagles, The Montpelier Rotary, St Paul’s United Methodist Men’s Group and CK Technologies.
