Nancy Viers (1943-2019)

Nancy J. Viers, age 76, of Pioneer, Ohio, died at 8:10 A.M. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, Ohio, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Viers was a 1961 graduate of Edgerton High School and had been employed by The Ohio Art Company for fifty-four years, being the longest working employee at the company. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was an avid shopper, who especially enjoying buying for others, with Costco being a favorite place to shop. She enjoyed helping others whenever possible, spending time at the lake, and going to her great-grandchildren’s football games.

Nancy J. Viers was born on January 26, 1943, in Dearborn, Michigan, the daughter of Junior L. and R. Jean (Tomlinson) Fritch. She married Roger L. Viers on July 7, 1980, in Bryan, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2003.

Survivors include a daughter, Melinda (Andy) Firestone, of Montpelier, Ohio; two stepsons, David Champion, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Chad (Amy) Champion, of Fayette, Ohio; her grandchildren, Robert Norman, Tayla Battle, Catina Hile, Billie Jo Downs and David Champion, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Chad, Jacob, Alaina, Brandon, Preston, Asia, Caleb, Paige, Harley, Cody, and Aiden; her great-great-grandchildren, Carter Remington, Aubree, Charlotte, Braxton, Abbigail and Kayson; one sister, Sharon Wallace, of Edgerton; her aunt, Madilyn Fritch, also of Edgerton; her grand-puppies, Sam and Jack; great-grand-puppies, Millie, Belle and Slasher Ray; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Linda Fritch; daughter-in-law, Betty Champion; and her uncle, Richard Fritch.


In keeping with Nancy’s wishes, there will be no visitation and services and interment will be private. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton.

Memorials are requested to Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, Edgerton United Methodist Church, or the Edgerton Food Bank.
