With beautiful blue skies overhead, enthusiastic runners and walkers kicked off Memorial Day Weekend 2015 in Edon with the running of the Ninth Annual Robin B. Spangler Memorial 5K. Nearly two hundred fifty participants paused at Leanne Field to remember Robin as friend, colleague and mentor before the early Saturday morning start time sent them snaking through the village’s west end.
Winners announced by organizers at the conclusion of the race were:
2015 ROBIN B. SPANGLER MEMORIAL 5K WINNERS
Ages 12 and Under – Carson Stamper, Bailey Bowen
Ages 13-18 – Peyton Spiess, Trinitie Woolace
Ages 19-25 – Jordan Spiess, Lindsay Hickman
Ages 26-35 – Scott Bidlack, Krystal Hake
Ages 36-49 – Brad Stark, Tracy Van De Voorde
Ages 50 and Over – Greg Cochran, Melinda St. John
Proceeds from the 5K benefit the Robin Bass Spangler Memorial Scholarship Fund that awards scholarships to EHS seniors best exemplifying the longtime English teacher and her commitment to academics and fitness.
Organizers Suzanne Hollabaugh and Mark Blue, assisted by members of the Edon High School National Honor Society, were pleased with this year’s response and look forward to another successful Memorial Day Weekend in 2016.
