PIONEER, May 29, 2014: The Eagles of North Central High School held their Spring Sports Awards in the High school Gymnasium on May 29, recognizing student athletic achievement for superior performance during Spring Sports for the 2014 school year. The highlight of the evening was the awarding of 2014 Male Athlete of the Year to Senior Branden Turner and the 2014 Female Athlete of the Year Award to Senior Abbey Litzenberg. Senior Dylan Hutchison was awarded this year’s Gamboe Sportsmanship Award for his leadership and play on and off the athletic field.
The following Spring Athletes from the Baseball, Softball and Track and Field Teams were recognized for their efforts for the North central Eagles:
BBC Scholar Athletes
For the Varsity Track and Field Team, Brady Cogswell, Samantha Hughes-Vasser and Brooke Schofield were recognized. For the Varsity Softball Team, Abbey Litzenberg, Reese Cogswell, Sabrina Pickford and Makayla Wildrick made the roll while for the Varsity Baseball Team, Dylan Hutchison, Branden Turner, Jordan Bailey and Colton Pilmore received honors. For recognition, students listed maintained at least a 3.25 GPA. In addition to the BBC Honors, Turner and Hutchison were also named District Academic Scholar Athletes along with Academic All-Ohio honors.
BBC Honorable Mention/BBC 2nd Team/BBC 1st Team
For Track and Field, Brady Cogswell was named 1st Team in the Discus as BBC Champion. Alaina Kemarly was honored on the 1st Team as the BBC Champion Long Jump for 2014. Brooke Schofield also received honors as a Regional Qualifier.
For the Softball Team, Reese Cogswell and Tristan Tomblin received Honorable Mention for the Conference; Abbey Litzenberg and Rachael Oxender were named to the 2nd Team and Sabrina Pickford was recognized by being named 1st Team BBC.
The Eagle Baseball Team saw Jordan Reeves named as a Honorable Mention while Clayton Ferguson and Dylan Hutchison were named 2nd Team BBC. Branden Turner, Josh Sawyer and Colton Pilmore were named 1st Team BBC for North Central.
Coaches Awards
Jared Stewart, head Track and Field Coach for North Central honored the following athletes for their contribution and effort on the Track and Field Team: Taking home the Freshman Award for the 2014 season was Cameron Pace for the Girls team and Trenton Sakos for the Boys Team. This year’s Most Improved went to Heather McConnaughey for the Girls Team and Zach Rhinard for the Boys Team. The Eagle Award was presented to Alaina Kemarly for the Girls team and Adam Knepper for the Boys Team. The 2014 Sportsmanship Ward was bestowed upon Taylor Harper for the Girls team and to Brady Cogswell for the Boys Team. The final award, the Coaches Award was given to Brooke Schofield for the Girls team and to Donald Sally for the Boys team.
For the Softball Team, Makayla Hayes was honored with the Pitcher’s Award while the Best Offensive Player Award went to Rachael Oxender. Sabrina Pickford was recognized as the Best Defensive Player. Rachael Shipman was named the Most Improved Player for 2014 and Abbey Litzenberg was honored with the 2014 Eagle Award.
For the varsity baseball Team, Steven Williams won the Coaches Award; the Best Offensive Player Award was presented to Colton Pilmore. Jordan Reeves was named the Most Improved; Branden Turner was named the Best Pitcher along with receiving the Eagle Award.
