August 28th-PIONEER: Hosting another team of Lady Eagles, North Central took on Fremont on Thursday night. The Indiana team proved to provide a difficult match for the girls of North Central, as Fremont took the victory in straight sets.
The match started out with momentum swinging back and forth, and both teams of Lady Eagles took their turns making runs. Fremont took game 1 on one such run, as North Central lost the set 21-25. Capitalizing on this shift in momentum, Fremont took game 2 by a score of 25-10. North Central climbed back into the game, however, pushing the Fremont Lady Eagles to the brink in the third set. The North Central girls couldn’t quite pull off the comeback, though, as they were defeated 24-26.
Rachel Oxender was at the heart of the North Central effort, making 9 assists and 4 aces. Makayla Hayes nailed 7 kills and made 3 blocks for the defeated Lady Eagles. Teammate Cady VanDaVoorde made 10 great passes and defended the court with 4 digs.
Even with the loss, North Central is optimistic about how they played.
“Even though the score shows a loss, it was a great improvement and things are coming together.” Coach Stacy Roth said of the game.
