August 28th-AYERSVILLE: The Lady Blackbirds took a trip to Ayersville on Thursday, with their sights set on taking over the Pilot’s home court. This wasn’t meant to be, however, and, despite a late run, Ayersville took the match in straight sets.

During the first set, The Blackbirds of Pettisville struggled to keep pace, dropping the game to the Pilots, 11-25. In game 2, the Pettisville girls tried to rebound, but still fell short. They lost the set 16-25. Game 3 saw the Lady Blackbirds give it everything they had, pushing Ayersville to their limit. It still wasn’t enough, though, as Pettisville lost the set and the game, 25-27.

Dana Fricke had 8 kills, 4 digs, and an ace for Pettisville. Teammate Stephanie Hubby defended the court well for the Blackbirds, managing an impressive 20 digs to go along with her 1 ace. Kate Kauffman was the consummate team player, making 13 assists in addition to her 6 digs, 2 kills, and 1 block. Teagan Kauffman and Carley Bontrager each made 2 aces for the Lady Blackbirds as well.
