DELTA (May 5, 2025) – With a share of the league title at stake, Archbold handed the ball to their ace Zach Short to close the deal.
The Findlay commit did just that by firing a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts as Archbold earned an NWOAL co-championship by beating Delta 1-0.
The only run in the game came in the top of the first via a two-out error. Tripp Langenderfer drew a one out walk and moved to second on a ground out.
CJ Arroyo-Thompson then hit a pop up that should have been the third out but was misplayed by the Panthers which allowed Langenderfer to come around to score from second and put Archbold in front 1-0.
Short came out the gate in control as Delta managed just two base runners in the first five innings coming on a walk in the second and a hit batter in the fourth inning.
Delta’s only serious threat of the game came in the sixth as Jadon Lohman was hit by a pitch, Brady Morr reached on an error and Lane Lopez was plunked to load the bases with two outs.
Short escaped the inning as he struck out Vinnie Maurer on three pitches to give him 14 on the night to that point as the score remained 1-0.
The Archbold senior got back on track in the seventh to close out the game as he struck out the side for the third time on the night to close out the game.
Morr took the hard luck loss for Delta, allowing just three hits in six innings on the hill.
