Members of the West Unity Village Council approved a motion made by Mayor Peggy Bernath to have a park program for kids again this summer. Noelle Chester, who has ran the program for the past two years, will run the program this year as well. The program will start right around July 8, soon after the fourth of July and all of the summer’s Little League baseball and recreational softball games come to a close. Included in the program will be a couple of hours of activity each day for kids. The program will run for five weeks. Registration forms will be sent home through the school.

Village Administrator Ric Beals reported to council that ongoing general maintenance continues throughout the village and that a leaning pole on S. Liberty Street will soon be replaced by First Energy.

Consideration was also given during the meeting how to best provide light at the new shelter house with both dusk-to-dawn and motion lights being considered. Presently the area under the awning of the shelter house is not always well lit. The light at the Shamrock gas station, which has the tendency to flicker or turn off on occasion, was also mentioned. Beals will continue to work with Toledo Edison to find out if they can determine the cause of the problem so that it can be fixed.

That, despite the on-going flux in temperatures, the time has come to begin spraying for mosquitoes has also come was also mentioned by both council members Donovan Leu and Ron Hausch. Both Beals and Street Supervisor Jim Eisel noted that spraying will begin soon.

No legislative matters were brought before council at the meeting.
