PETTISVILLE: MAY 2, 2014– The Pettisville Lady Blackbirds continued to show toughness and determination in close games this season, taking down the Lady Eagles from North Central 5-4. The Blackbirds had to hold on tight in the bottom of the 7th as the Lady Eagles rallied, but fell just short giving Pettisville the victory.
Teagan Kauffman continued to pitch well this year on the mound, allowing just 7 hits on the game while striking out 4 Eagles.
In the victory for Pettisville, Stephanie Hubby opened up the Lady Blackbird scoring in the opening inning, blasting a huge 3 run shot out of the park; Audra Klopfenstein connected for 2 hits in the game, one of which was a deep shot over the wall for a round tripper along with a single and 1 RBI. Amber Klopfenstein connected for 2 singles in the victory with an RBI, and Emily Hubby along with Johanna Roth also connected for singles in the conference win.
Reese Cogswell took the loss for North Central, throwing 6 innings and allowing 5 runs off of 6 hits.
Offensively for the Lady Eagles in the batter’s box, Sabrina Pickford and Mikayla Hayes each hit for a double and a single in the loss; Rachael Oxender, Cogswell and Abbey Litzenberg each drove in an RBI off of singles for North Central.
The loss drops the Eagles to 5-12 on the season and the Eagles sit at 1-7 in the BBC.
