(June 1st, 2015) – EDGERTON: It was a tough start to the ACME season for the Blackbirds of Fulton County. Pettisville made the lengthy trip to Edgerton for a double header with the Bulldogs. The first contest was a rough one for the talented boys of Pettisville.
The Blackbirds fell to host Edgerton 10-0.
Edgerton jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first 2 runs of the game in the bottom of the first. A scoreless second inning by both teams was followed by another offensive assault by Edgerton in the bottom of the third, tacking 3 more runs to their total. Another 5 runs in the bottom of the fourth put the Bulldog boys ahead by 10 runs, with Pettisville unable to find an answer in the top of the fifth.
Pettisville struggled offensively and defensively throughout the game against a tough Bulldog squad. Earning 4 hits, the Blackbird’s offense saw Edgerton dish out 9. On defense, Pettisville hurt their cause with 3 errors, which gave Edgerton some help as well.
Landon Roth, preparing for his sophomore year, had a tough, yet decent outing on the mound as he took the loss. The young pitcher gave up 3 earned runs off of 5 hits in 3 innings of play. He also earned 2 strikeouts while allowing no walks.
A bright spot for the Pettisville bats was Justin Rupp, another rising sophomore. Rupp went 2 for 2 in the game, hitting for a single and a double. Teammates Christian Barhite and John Rufenacht also hit singles, with each batter going 1 for 2 within the batter’s box.
