Richard Lavon Clark, Sr.

Richard-Lavon-Clark-WEBRichard Lavon Clark, Sr., 93, passed away Sunday afternoon at his home in Montpelier. A Williams County resident for his entire life, he was born in Montpelier on October 17, 1922 to Boyd and Myrtle Amelia (Friedel) Clark, Sr. Richard went to Montpelier High School and graduated in 1940. After school he went to serve his country in the US Army during WWII and was honorably discharged as a Sargent. On March 09, 1946 he married Violet S. Hauer and she survives.

For 47 years Richard worked at Winzeler’s Stamping Company in Montpelier, retiring in 1987 as the Shipping Clerk. Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan and at one time was on the council and a deacon of the church. He was also a member of the Bryan V.F.W.

Richard is survived by his wife Violet of 69 years, two sons Richard “Ric” Clark, Jr. and Ed (Patti) Clark both of Montpelier; five grandchildren Kristen Ewers, David Clark, Sam JoHantgen, Ed Clark, Jr., and Sophia Dilley; three brothers Byron Clark of Montpelier, Ronald Clark of Bryan and Harold (Betty) Clark of Grover Hill, Ohio; one sister Marjorie (Carl) Bowers of West Unity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter in-law Juanita E. Clark, two brothers Raymond Clark and Boyd Clark, Jr. and a sister Phyllis Clark.


Visitation hours for Richard will be on Tuesday, November 24 from 3-7pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Wednesday at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan with Pastor Mary Beth Smith-Gunn to officiate. The burial will be at Fountain Grove Cemetery in Bryan with graveside military rites conducted by the Bryan V.F.W.
