A major traffic change is planned for a Delta area intersection after state officials announced funding for a new roundabout in Fulton County as part of a broader effort to reduce serious roadway crashes across Ohio.
The Ohio Department of Transportation confirmed that the intersection of State Route 109 and County Road D has been selected for improvement through the Highway Safety Improvement Program, a state-funded initiative that directs resources to locations with a record of fatal or injury-related crashes.
The latest funding round totals $97.2 million and will support 39 projects in 27 counties during state fiscal years 2026 through 2031.
Plans for the Fulton County project call for replacing the existing intersection with a single lane roundabout.
Work on the project will be spread over several years, beginning with preliminary engineering in 2029. Right-of-way acquisition is scheduled for 2030, with construction expected to take place in 2031.
State funding for the project totals $4,085,000. Of that amount, $700,000 is designated for engineering work, $85,000 for right-of-way needs, and $3,300,000 for construction.
According to the state, the Highway Safety Improvement Program uses crash data to determine where safety improvements are most needed.
Eligible projects include roundabouts, redesigned intersections, added turn lanes, improved traffic control devices, updated pavement markings, and pedestrian safety features such as enhanced crosswalks and sidewalks.
“We want Ohioans to get from place to place safely,” DeWine said in the announcement, adding that the state has emphasized road design and physical safety improvements.
ODOT Director Pamela Boratyn said the projects focus on applying proven safety measures in high-risk areas to reduce deadly and serious injury crashes statewide.
The Fulton County project is one of several roundabout installations included in the statewide funding package, which also features a variety of intersection and roadway safety upgrades across Ohio.
