Aaliyah Spangler, a fifth grade student at St. Mary Catholic School was the winner of the annual Williams County spelling bee held Wednesday evening at Stryker Local Schools.
The runner-up was Gavin Paxton, an eighth grade student from Stryker Local Schools.
Aaliyah is the daughter of Andrea Granger and Derek Spangler. The winner of the county bee would normally represent Williams County at the Fort Wayne regional spelling bee.
However, the regional event has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
