Dr. Stanley Darnell, age 67, of Wauseon, Ohio, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 at his residence. He was born on January 8, 1951 in Hazel Park, Michigan to the late Raymond and Lucille (McKendree) Darnell. On November 21, 1969, he married Norma Luidhardt from Lykens, Ohio.
Stan graduated from Bucyrus City High School in 1968 and from North Central Technical College in 1970 with an associate degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1975, stationed at Ellsworth AFB, working in the minuteman missile squadron.
After graduating from the Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1983, he moved his family to Wauseon, Ohio where he practiced Optometry for over 35 years. His wife, Norma, worked together with Dr. Stan over 20 years in the practice serving the community. He was a member of the American Optometric Association, Lions Club, and the Church on Strayer (Maumee, Ohio). He was a previous member of Haven Heights Baptist Church and Oasis Christian Church, where he enjoyed running the soundboard for the Worship Team.
Stan has always been a family man, enjoying his time with them weekly for family dinner and often on vacation with them. He loved making each of his three granddaughters feel special. Swimming has been a family sport for his son and three granddaughters. There were very few swim meets that he did not attend to support them.
Surviving are his wife, Norma; son, Brant Darnell and daughter-in-law, Robin (Hayes) and three granddaughters Kasey, Sydney, and McKenzie; brother Ray (Shelley) Darnell and sister, Lou Ann (Ron) Ricker. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, Jennifer and Jessica Darnell; brother, Roy Darnell; and father-in-law, Paul Luidhardt.
Visitation for Stan will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Crossroads Evangelical Church from 2:00 PM until 4:30 PM and from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A memorial service will also be held at Crossroads Evangelical Church on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tony Scott and Pastor Kevin Clark, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Lust Cemetery in Chatfield, Ohio.
