Stryker Branch Library will start their Summer Reading Program on Tuesday, June 4 and finish on Thursday, July 11. “Dig into Reading” will be this summer’s overall theme with special programs held on Tuesdays in June from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, story times held on Wednesdays in June from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, and come and go crafts held on Thursdays in June from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Parents can help their children maintain their reading skills over the summer break by bringing them to reading programs at the library.
A representative of the Toledo Zoo will kick-off summer reading at Stryker on June 4 with a presentation about “Animals That Dig Deep.” On June 11, children can come and “Dig into Arrowheads” with Randy Oser. On June 18, Northwest Electric will be on hand to demonstrate electricity and the power of energy with an Energy Bike, a Tabletop Demo, and a High Voltage Safety Demo. On June 25, kids can “Meet the K-9 Dogs” with Mick Frisbie.

Wednesdays will be story time days with “Stories on the Lawn” being held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Story time will be held outside under the shade tree, weather permitting, with stories being read by a different local celebrity each week. The stories will be moved inside if necessary. There will be “cool treats” after the stories. Also, Stryker Library will be holding a drawing for four one-day passes to Splash Bay Indoor Water Park in Maumee, Ohio. Tickets to enter this drawing will only be given to those who attend “Stories on the Lawn.”
Thursdays in June will be Come and Go Craft Days. Kids are invited to stop in between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm on June 6 to “Make a Flower for Your Garden,” on June 13 to “Make a Bulldozer,” on June 20 to “Make a Dinosaur,” and on June 27 to “Make a Hedgehog.”
July’s summer reading schedule will begin with a Come and Go Craft Day on Tuesday, July 2 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm where kids can frost and eat a patriotic cookie and make a 4th of July craft. Wednesday, July 3 will feature an afternoon movie at 1:00 pm titled Flushed Away which is rated PG. The following week on Tuesday, July 9, children are invited to “Make a Fossil” with Kellie Creighton. Johnny Tin Cap, mascot from the Ft. Wayne TinCaps, will be a special guest on Wednesday, July 10 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Stryker Library will hold a Pirate Party on Thursday, July 11 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm to close their Summer Reading Program.
Throughout summer reading at Stryker, children may sign up once daily per check out for a drawing for four King’s Island Tickets to go to one lucky winner chosen on July 12. Also this summer in June, July, and August, Stryker Library is featuring “Puppies on the Go.” Stryker families may choose one of five different available puppies (stuffed toys) to check out for a two-week loan period. Borrow a puppy and take it along on a family vacation, special event, day in the park, or picnic. Take a photograph of your child or family with the puppy at the special event. Each child may submit a non-returnable photo to be displayed on the library’s picture board. Photos need to be submitted when the puppies are returned to the library. At that time, the child’s name will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize. Deadline for all entries is August 16th at 5:00 pm.
