The Superior Township Trustees met in regular session on Monday, February 23, 2026, in the township office.

In attendance were trustees Jake Borton, Dan Gillen, and Mike Trausch along with township road supervisor and cemetery sexton Cody Boyd and Fiscal Officer Vanessa Shepard.

A resolution to consider a rate increase for cemetery-related fees and services provided by the township for township-owned cemeteries was approved by the trustees.

The rate increases, which already took effect on Monday, February 23, are for both residents and non-residents.

One of the stipulations involved is that if residents live in the Village of Montpelier, they are considered non-residents.

Following is a listing of Superior Township’s new cemetery fee schedule:

-Single grave: $200 (resident), $350 (non-resident).

-Full lot (8 graves): $1,600 (resident), $2,800 (non-resident).

-Half lot (4 graves): $800 (resident), $1,400 (non-resident).

-Grave opening (adult): $200 (resident), $350 (non-resident).

Barnes Chapel

-Grave opening (baby): $100 (resident), $175 (non-resident).

-Grave opening (cremation): $100 (resident), $175 (non-resident).

-Saturday burials: $350 (resident and non-resident).

-Late burial after 3 p.m. (plus $150 for every hour past): $100 (resident), $150 (non-resident).

-Mausoleum crypt: $2,000 (resident), $2,400 (non-resident).

Titan Tire

-Columbarium: $2,000 (resident), $2,400 (non-resident).

-Open and close mausoleum: $100 (resident), $150 (non-resident).

-Columbarium headstone (open and close): $50 (resident), $75 (non-resident).

-Labor for base (any township cemetery): $150 (resident and non-resident).

-Permit to transfer grave site ownership: $25 (resident and non-resident).

Edgerton Forge

-Memorial stone concrete (per cubic foot of concrete): $7 (resident and non-resident).

-Open and close two interments: $100 (resident), $150 (non-resident).

-Interment for cremations to be placed in monument: $50 (non-resident).

Trustees discussed with Boyd the condition of the backhoe, which requires hydraulic repairs and replacement tires. They reviewed options for transporting the equipment for service.

Due to the urgency of the condition of the backhoe tires, trustees considered proceeding with replacing the tires first and then addressing transport logistics for hydraulic repairs later.

Siebenaler Construction

Boyd discussed purchasing shop stock parts for the Bad Boy mower. The action was tabled until April.

He also brought up purchasing a three-year warranty plan for the mower, but trustees decided not to pursue it. He also gave his February report on township-related work.

Fiscal Officer Vanessa Shepard will be contacting Fackler Monument regarding confirmation of the black benches which are included in the Columbarium contract.

Trustees reviewed a work permit for 8421 County Road G to work on an electric utility pole.

In other actions, the trustees discussed issuing a township credit card to be used solely for legitimate township business purposes, specifically for small maintenance supplies and related operational expenses.

Pettisville Grain

A resolution will be prepared to establish the card including limits on individual transaction amounts and any other necessary safeguards and usage restrictions.

Trustees reviewed the sign application and noted that when they conduct road inventory in April, they will also inventory township signs. Sign grants can be applied for after evaluating what signs the township will need.

Beginning in March, the Superior Township Trustees will be meeting on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 3:30 p.m. The next meeting is on Tuesday, March 3 at 3:30 p.m.
