TAAC FOOTBALL: Big Third Quarter Carries North Central Past Hilltop, 47-14

North Central 47, Hilltop 14

WEST UNITY – North Central used a decisive third-quarter scoring output as the Eagles soared past Hilltop, 47-14, in the regular season football finale for both teams in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference.

Leading by nine points, 23-14, at halftime, the Eagles (3-7, 2-5 TAAC) got a huge boost when Alex St. John returned the kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown to begin the second half.

North Central added two more touchdown runs by Tyler Meyers, covering 14 and one yard, as the Eagles eventually pulled away with the running clock to finish it out.

Meyers and St. John both scored three touchdowns apiece for North Central. Meyers also scored on a 28-yard run in the opening quarter while St. John tallied twice on runs of 11 and five yards in the second quarter.

Meyers accounted for 259 of the Eagles’ 343 yards in total offense. The senior quarterback completed 4 of 9 passes for 111 yards and rushed for 148 yards on 24 carries. St. John added 59 yards on 12 carries, and Cash Martin hauled in two passes for 91 yards, including an 88-yard reception.


Hilltop (3-7, 3-4 TAAC) scored both of its touchdowns in the second quarter. Brycen Grubbs hauled in a 78-yard scoring pass from Cameron Shimp, and Scott Bowers added a six-yard touchdown run.

Shimp was 8 of 17 for 202 yards through the air for the Cadets. Bowers had 84 yards on 20 carries, and Grubbs totaled 155 yards receiving on five catches.
