EDON – ‘If’ is undoubtedly the biggest two-letter word in the English language. Add the word ‘only’, and you have a whole new scenario. ‘If only’ Earnest Byner hadn’t fumbled the ball, we would have never heard of ‘The Drive’ is an application that Cleveland Browns fans would easily understand.
On January 24, the Edon Lady Bombers had their own application for those words. If only the Lady Bombers would have found a way to contain Taylor Griffiths, they may have had a chance to knock off the Fayette Lady Eagles. The proof came in the scoring column as Griffiths went off for a game-high 18 in The Hangar, leading the Lady Eagles to a decisive 50-34 BBC win.
The Lady Bombers held an early lead, but appearances were deceiving as the first period essentially ended with the score Edon 8 and Griffiths 6. A 15-4 second quarter run put the Lady Eagles out front to stay, with Mikayla Smith slamming the post-intermission door with a trio of second half threes to seal the deal.
Griffiths finished with 18 and Smith 12 for Fayette, while Paige Keefer had 5 points. Melani Seiler and Alexis Fruchey each had 4 points, Kaela Seiler 3, and Ashtyn Baker and Allison Cuff had 2 points apiece.
Sydney Stoll led the Lady Bombers with 15 points. Andrea Headley and Alex Kiess had 5 points apiece, Kaitlin Chrisman 4 points, Hannah Brehm-Gutting and Kaitlyn Sonneberger 2 points apiece and Baylee Gearhart added a free throw.
