ARCHBOLD (April 11, 2026) – A highly anticipated matchup between two of the top teams in the area ended in a clean sweep for Archbold, who took a doubleheader from Fairview.
A six-run sixth inning helped propel the Bluestreaks to an 8-3 win in game one, and they ended the afternoon with a 4-3 triumph, handing the Apaches their first losses of the young season.
“The kids just continued to battle,” said Archbold coach Jeff Brunswick. “Fairview is very good and you’ve got to keep playing. We faced a really good pitcher today but the third time through the lineup our kids got some pretty good swings.”
Archbold improves to 7-0. Fairview drops to 4-2.
Isaiahs Gracia took the mound for Archbold in game one and, after striking out the leadoff man, gave up a pair of walks to Logan Olinger and Shady Fritch to put runners at first and second with one out.
Olinger and Fritch advanced a base after a Gracia wild pitch. Anthony Singer hit into a fielder’s choice to score Olinger from third to give Fairview an early 1-0 lead.
Archbold answered in their half of the first inning after Fairview starting pitcher Jonah Shininger gave up a one-out walk to Harrison Wyse.
Wyse stole second and third base and came home on a Collin Short single to right field to tie the game at 1-1.
Fairview would get the lead back in their top half of the third inning. Fritch reached base after a single to left to start the inning.
After getting Gavin Palladino and Singer to fly out, Gracia gave up a single to Noah Shininger to move Fritch to third.
Jonah Shininger was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. A bases-loaded walk to Miller allowed Fritch to score to make it 2-1.
A fielding error by Wyse helped Noah Shininger score Fairview’s third run, but Jonah Shininger was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
In the fourth inning, Short would draw a walk and come home on a Wyatt Cline double to cut into the Fairview lead, 3-2.
The game would remain that way until the home half of the sixth when Archbold would take the lead for good. Jonah Shininger looked solid all afternoon but got into trouble to start the sixth.
After giving up a walk to Short, Shininger went to a 3-1 count on C.J. Arroyo-Thompson, prompting Fairview coach Andy Singer to make a pitching change, handing the ball over to Ethan Wonderly.
Wonderly’s first pitch was a ball to put Arroyo-Thompson on first and move Short into scoring position at second.
Ethan Bowman singled to load the bases, setting the stage for Cline to come through big again. Cline singled to center, bringing Short and Arroyo-Thompson home to give the Streaks a 4-3 lead.
Jace Bernath singled to reload the bases. Gracia singled to left to score Bowman and Cline and move Bernath to second base.
Aranjer Krieger, pinch running for Bernath, got to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Tripp Langenderfer single to make it 7-3.
The throw from the outfield came all the way home, allowing Gracia to reach third and Langenderfer to get to second.
Palladino relieved Wonderly and got the second out of the inning on a strikeout but walked Short to load the bases again.
Archbold scored their final run of the game on a bases-loaded walk to Arroyo-Thompson before Palladino got Bowman to pop out to third base.
Archbold brought Jace Castillo in for the top of the seventh, and the senior right-hander struck out the side to secure the win.

“We made a couple of base-running mistakes,” said coach Singer. “Archbold came out and hit, which we knew they were going to do. They took advantage of getting a bunch of hits in a row.”
Cline picked up the win for Archbold, going one inning and giving up a hit. Gracia pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Jonah Shininger took the loss for the Apaches, pitching five innings, allowing four runs on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
“Jonah did a great job,” said coach Singer. “He got up to 100 pitches and we don’t want to go any further than that this early in the season.”
Cline helped his own cause, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.
Archbold took the nightcap with a 4-3 win. The Streaks scored two in the first and single runs in the second and third innings while getting some strong pitching.
Fairview scored two in the second and a run in the fourth but were held scoreless after that. Krieger pitched five innings for the win. Castillo came on in the seventh to earn the save. Anthony Singer took the loss for Fairview.
