During their regularly scheduled noon board meeting on October 24, the Wauseon Board of Education Recognized the staff and students of Wauseon Middle School for earning the School of Honor Award. School of Honor Awards are given to schools who are Title I eligible, have maintained a ninety percent or better proficiency test rate over the last five years, and have met several other criteria set forth by the state. Wauseon Middle School is one of only 37 total schools in the state, and the lone school in the four county area, to earn the award in 2013. Only three middle schools throughout the state earned the award this year. Wauseon Middle School is the second school within the district to earn the award over the past two years.
After recognizing the middle school, the board moved onto enjoy the Wauseon High School Band section leaders’ performance of Moon River before moving on to conduct regular business. During the meeting the board approved the FY14-FY18 Five Year Forecast as required by law and approved three personnel items.
The reassignment of Jacyln Yackee from Assistant to the Treasurer/Accounts Payable to Assist to the Treasurer/Payroll was approved effective September 20, 2013. Mark Britsch was approved as a Volunteer Assistant Freshman Boys Basketball Coach for the 2013-14 school year. A one year limited classified contract was also approved for offer to Bonnie Lange as the Assistant to the Treasurer/Accounts Payable. The contract is for 7.5 hours per day, 260 days per year and is contingent upon the receipt of a clean BCI/FBI background check.
Also approved for first reading during the meeting were several NEOLA Bylaw Policy additions, revisions, and replacements. The vast majority of these were revisions or replacements with only two additions listed – Policy 1662, Anti-Harassment and Policy 8390, Animals on District Policy.
With no further action the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be held Monday, November 18 at 5:30 PM at the Wauseon Board of Education Office.
