(May 2nd 2015) – Winning any sort of tournament is quite an accomplishment, and should be relished by the victors. Earning the defining win over one’s rival school takes the enjoyment to a whole new level. This is something the Junior Varsity Indians of Wauseon got to experience as they defeated Archbold in the championship game of the junior varsity tournament hosted by the Indians.
Wauseon bested the Blue Streaks 6-2 to earn championship status.
The first three innings were quiet wins for both teams. Neither side was able to produce a run in that span. Then, in the top of the fourth, Archbold struck first. The Blue Streak boys drove in a run, claiming the first lead of the game.
It wouldn’t last long, however.
In the bottom of that same inning, as if waiting for a reason to attack, the Wauseon offense exploded for 5 runs, seizing control of the contest in the blink of an eye. Another run in the fifth inning gave them a 6-1 advantage with just two innings left to play. Archbold would add another run to their total in the top of the sixth, but couldn’t match the flurry of runs put forth by the Indian bats.
Justus Chapa was a big part of said Indian flurry, hitting 3 singles to drive in 2 RBIs. Jacob Raabe made contact for a double, while Carter Stump and Everett Bueter hit for RBI singles.
Stump also impacted the contest from the mound, pitching four innings to earn the win. Allowing 1 earned run and 2 hits, he also struck out 2 Archbold batters. C.J. Moser came in for relief, finishing out the last three innings.
